Introduction
Lesson Structure
Each lesson begins with a listing of Objectives. These highlight the skills and knowledge that you are expected to master by the time you complete the lesson. Next there will be a Reading Assignment for the lesson. Your readings will come either from the texts you have purchased for the course, or from the additional readings listed as direct links to the corresponding file to download. Following the reading list, an Introduction will give you a sense of the focus of the lesson, and what you will need to know and do. The introduction will provide the kinds of overview you would generally get in a classroom lecture.
The heart of the lesson are the Reading and Responding and Writing sections. The reading and responding sections give an introduction to each text, and include commentary and questions to help you focus your reading. These sections are intended to prompt deeper thinking about the reading, and to reveal places where you might have difficulty or questions you should consider. Plan to read each assignment at least twice. The writing sections prepare you to write the formal essay you will be submitting when you have completed each lesson. These sections preview the assignment for each lesson and highlight particular skills or writing styles you will be using to write your essays.
