Grading

The most significant portion of your grades will be derived from the formal essays you submit with each lesson. Point values for these essays vary, but they always make up the clear majority of each lesson's grade. In general, the essays will be worth more as the semester progresses and your writing skills improve. Thus, the essay for lesson 1 is worth 75 points, while the essay for lesson 2 is worth 100 points, and so on. Each assignment will clearly indicate the point value, and the self-rating guide in each lesson will indicate exactly how the points are derived.

Response journal assignments are worth 15 points each. A self-rating guide will also be provided for them.

The grading scale for the class will be as follows:

97 A-plus, 93 A, 90 A-minus; 87 B-plus, 83 B, 80 B-minus; 77 C-plus, 73 C, 70 C-minus; 67 D-plus, 63 D, 60 D-minus; 59 and below, F
